Make it Snappy!

Starette runs out onto the street, she does not notice the rain until she is half way across. When she feels her top getting wet, as the heavy rain drips from her noise down her cheeks. She sighs to herself as she pushes the door to the bowling ally open, and notices how the rain has ruined Wolfgangs flower. Some petals had become lose, others were missing. It’s once bright colours have turned darker in the rain. This is just perfect.

She takes the flower from her hair and pockets it in her purse and replaces it with Roons one, which looks out of place in her wet hair. Maybe I should go to the bathroom and dry off, but I’ve kept Roon waiting so long. Why did I even agree to do this? She sighs as she realises that she can not afford to keep Roon waiting any longer.

She turns the corner heading down to her lane, her feet making a sucking sound with each painful step she takes. She spy’s Roon bending over the table at their lane, he is intently looking down at it. As Starette nears him she can see that Roon is munching on some cheese nachos.

Roon looks up from his snack as he hears someone approaching him; he has melted cheese dripping down the left-hand corner of his mouth and some nacho crumbs above his lips. His eyes goes wide as he recognises Starette, he quickly rises out of his seat and offers it to her by motioning with his hands. “What happened to you? How could you get so wet in the bathroom?” He asks why trying to dry Starettes face with a cheese-covered napkin.

Starette looks up at Roon a drop of water drips off of the hair in front of her eyes. “Erm… The tap broke and… water was just… I don’t really want to talk about it Roon.” Starette quickly turns her attention to the one portion of cheesy nachos on the table in front of her; she glares up at Roon with a look that could kill a man in a heartbeat. “Why is there only one portion of nachos on the table Roon” She asks is a stern voice.

“Well…” Roon stammers as he looks down at his own shoes. “… I was hunger … and you were gone for such a long time.” He looks up at Starette for a brief moment, before looking back down at his shoes “…so I brought a portion of nachos.”

“And why did you not think to buy me a portion of nachos, did you not think that maybe I might like a snack as well.” Starette yells at the embarrassed Roon.  I hope he is buying this.

“Bu…But…” Roon stammers “You don’t normally like nachos.” Roon looks up for a moment to see that Starette is giving him the look. Roon winces before finally giving in “Okay I’ll go buy a portion of nachos for you.” Roon slowly walks away towards the nacho stand in defeat, his hands in his pockets his body hunched over starring at his shoes as he joins the line for nachos.

Starette looks over her right shoulder at Roon and sighs. I hated to do that, but how was I going to explain being soaked through. She looks down at her wet top and notices some yellow markings. Snap! Roon has got melted cheese all over me. She pulls out her compact and a tissue; she lightly damps the tissue with the rainwater dripping from her hair. She looks into her mirror seeing the cheese marks across her face, she rubs the cheese off with the tissue smudging her makeup. She rolls her eyes in self-defeat, and slowly whips off her makeup.

Roon returns carrying another portion of cheesy nachos, he plunks them down in front of Starette. He has a cheesy grin on his face in more ways then one, Starette giggles and smiles to herself, she offers Roon her tissue and motions for him to whip his faces. Roon smiles back and whip the melted cheese from his face, he picks up a nacho and moves it closer to Starettes mouth. She takes a bit; she did not realise how hungry she had become from dashing between Roon and Wolfgang. They ate their nachos together, often feeding some to each other. Roon was going on about some new Sci-Fi show he was into, Starette half-listened to him laughing in the right places. This is such a wonderful moment. She thinks to herself as they finish the last of the nachos.

Roon leaped up from his seat. “I think it is your go Starette.”

Starette looks up at Roon, then looks past him at the clock on the far wall. Snap! I’ve gotta be quick if I’m ever going to keep my date with Wolfgang.

She quickly gets out of her seat brushing some of the nacho crumbs off of her soaking wet skirt, she notices the a lot of cheese stains on her clothes from Roons near misses in feeding her. She sighs heavily as she grabs her ball and runs up to the lane. Her feet are killing her from her too tight shoes, which now are soaked through with rainwater. Her skirt is tight restricting a lot of movement, as she runs up to the lane. As soon as she gets there she throws her ball with full force; she feels the ball pulling on her. She looks down to see that the melted cheese has stuck her hand to her ball, she is losing balance. “Oh Snap!” She yells as she slips over onto the polished lane floor.  Her soaking wet clothes and skin make her glide easily across the polished lane floor, she looks down at the pins ahead of her and closes her eyes tight hoping that it was all a dream. However the feeling of pain she was getting as she skidded down the lane showed her how real it was.

Roon looked on in disbelief as Starette started to roll towards the pins face first, he looked away as she was inches from the pins. He heard an almighty crash; he winced before looking around like everyone else in the bowling ally. They all looked as Starette lied in the middle of the lane, only three pins were left standing. The automatic scoring system lit up showing a seven ten split.

Starette slowly opened her eyes; all she could see was darkness. Am I dead? She thought, but then she felt a great weight pressing down on her back as the automatic clearer started to work. Starette screamed in pain, she looked around to see the she was now stuck pressed in by the machinery. She called for help half-screaming and half-crying from the pain and from the humiliation she was feeling at being stuck in the bowling lane.

Roon in hearing Starette cry for help started running towards her. “I’m coming Starette, I’ll get you out.” Roon got half way down the polished lane at a run, before he slipped over and landed front first onto the floor below. “Ow” He cried before trying to move on his hands and knees, this did not get him very far as he slipped with cheesy hands back onto the floor.

30 Minutes Later

The engineers had finally been able to reset the machine and get Starette out of her tight situations, her and Roon now sit at one of the tables of the fast food restaurant in the bowling ally. Roon had been to the bathroom and got most of the melted cheese off of his hands, he is looking down at the table not wanting to look at Starette. He moves his left hand across the table; to gently rub her hand which had only recently had the bowling ball released from it.

Starette smiles at Roons gentle touch, she sighs as she looks down at her outfit which had seen better days. Most of the cheese and oil stains had gone, but to Starette she still felt dirty as if the stains were still there just unseen to anyone but her. Her flower is on the table quite crushed and not even recognisable as a flower at all now. She sighs softly to herself.

Roon was the first to speak. “Maybe we should give the rest of the game a miss, and go see the movie instead.” He looks at his watch. “They should be letting people in soon, and I do love getting a good seat.”

At the mention of time Starette grabbed Roons wrist and looked at his watch. Snap! I’ve been gone to long, I’ve gotta get back to Wolfgang before he starts worrying. Starette quickly jumps out of her chair, she feels some pain in her back but she shrugs it off “’kay you grab the tickets Roon and I’ll meet you there.”

Starette starts to head for the front door “But where are you going?” He asks. Starette turns around and smiles “I’ve just got to use the bathroom again.”

Roon over at Starette “But the bathrooms are that way.” He points to the opposite direction that Starette is going in. Snap! Think Starette think.

She quickly comes to an answer, and smiles brightly at Roon. “But those ones are broken silly.” She quickly dashes off before Roon could ask any more awkward questions. She cools out of the bowling ally into the pouring rain; she places Wolfgangs flower in her hair and runs across to the ice-skating rink. She left the bowling ally so fast that she forgot to change her shoes, she runs into the building and straight out onto the ice in her slippery bowling shoes. She loses balances and slips over flat onto her back, her whole world goes blurry before going a complete black.
Well this is the fourth chapter in my series of short stories. This as always features Starette by [link] and Roon by [link]

Hope you find it funny.
